This page is a collection of just some of the over 2000 photographs that have been donated to or collected by the Leavesden Hospital History Association since 2009.
They are of the people, places and events that made up the culture of caring that the Leavesden Asylum/Hospital was recognized for during its 127 years of operation.
We will be adding more, so watch this space.
If you have any old photographs of the hospital, please contact us. We would love to see them.
The Cherry Jackson Collection
Cherry Jackson was a physiotherapist who worked at the Physical Development Unit (PDU) at the Leavesden Hospital for 24 years from 1971 to 1995. Cherry took over 400 photographs of the site as it looked in its final days. Below is just a small collection of the photographs and are of the main hospital site and of the annex on the south side of College Road. This collection is a very rare and detailed look at just what the site looked like and where many of the hospital’s buildings were located.
